Holography: From Physics to The Big Screen Essay -- Cinematography
The technical evolution of film industry is one notable feature of modern civilization. The innovation of combining motion pictures with recorded sound. Black-and-white film gradually replaced by the colour motion picture film and the visual effect involve the integration of live-action footage and computer generated imagery to create a scenes which look realistic, but would be dangerous, costly or impossible to be recorded and the popularization of three-dimensional cinema. The developments of technique contribute the film industry to get closer to peopleââ¬â¢s perception, however, in the real life. The observation of objects would change if we look from different distance and angle. And this experience of perception cannot be done in film. Because of the lack of stereoscopic impression of film images, it limits our sense so that the actual we see might be different. In 1920s, Sergei Eisenstein had predicted that the future of cinematography was tridimensional and there are many other film pioneers hold the same view. What most film histories leave out is that the Lumià ¨re Brothers were trying to achieve a three-dimensional image, Louis Lumià ¨re eventually re-shot Lââ¬â¢Arrivà ©e dââ¬â¢un Train with a stereoscopic film camera and exhibited it (along with a series of other 3D shorts) at French Academy of Science. The films were shot in two views of the scene and then printing the film in two different colors and combining them with layered film on one reel. S3D (Stereoscopic 3D) film with better use of polarization systems were invited in 1930s and shown in the public in 1950s, however, after this initial huge excitement, S3D films were not widely recognized. Although the polarized stereoscopic film technology have been improved in all possible... ...nounced that they developed a generator of holograms on a board with a circuit that generates holograms on the LCD panel. The holography had demonstrated its potential. Now holograms are not so distant future any more. The idea of the holographic movies started becoming popular among filmmakers. Andrei Tarkovsky said, "The most important thing for cinema is for it to become holographic". A hologram can be made not only with the light waves of a laser, but also with sound waves and other waves in the electro-magnetic spectrum. Acoustical holography can see through solid objects by using sound waves. Microwave holography detects images by recording the objectââ¬â¢s radio waves. Some holograms made with ultraviolet light can record an image of particle such as atom or molecule. Holography is one of the most significant discoveries humankind has ever made.

Love and Sacrifice Essay
Sacrifice is one of the purest and most selfless ways to love someone. There is no better way to show oneââ¬â¢s loyalty or love for another than through sacrifice. The Kite Runner clearly demonstrates the sacrifices individuals made to make the ones they love happy. In Khaled Hosseiniââ¬â¢s novel The Kite Runner, a little boy named Hassan demonstrates love and sacrifice the most. Hassan admires Amir an immense amount and his loyalty towards Amir is always present in everything he does. He constantly sacrifices things for Amir and does whatever he can to make Amir happy and Amirââ¬â¢s father Baba, very proud of Amir. Hassan makes sure Amir is always pleased and does anything and everything Amir tells him to do. Hassan has an unconditional love and loyalty towards Amir that he does not falter no matter how badly Amir treats him. Hassan is absolutely selfless; to a point where he sacrifices himself for the one thing he knows Amir has craved his whole life, his fatherââ¬â¢s admiration. When Hassan goes running for the blue kite, Amir asks him to come back with it and Hassan replies ââ¬Å" For you a thousand times over!â⬠(pg.71). Hassan has two choices; to give the blue kite, which will consequently betray his best friend Amir, or to be punished by Assef and his friends and keep the kite. His devoted love to Amir results in a horrible sacrifice. Hassan gets raped and does not even think twice about giving up the blue kite, the key to Babaââ¬â¢s heart. He stays loyal to Amir even though he pays a hard price. Hassan has always taken the blame for things Amir does or farthings Amir makes Hassan do. Hassan being the selfless person he is never speaks up for himself knowing that will only get his dear friend Amir in trouble. Hassanââ¬â¢s final sacrifice for Amir is deliberately planned by Amir himself. Amir cannot withstand the pain and guilt of knowing that he does nothing to helpà Hassan from getting raped; he is selfish and a coward. He is reminded of this every time he looks at Hassan. He thinks if he can find a way to make Hassan and his father the servants of their house, Ali will then leave and rid him of his guilt and suffering. So he plants his new watch under Hassanââ¬â¢s bed and then accuses Hassan of stealing it. Knowing that Hassan will never disappoint him. He waits for Hassan to respond when Baba asks him if this is true. ââ¬Å"Did you steal that money? Did you steal Amirââ¬â¢s watch, Hassan?â⬠Hassan lies â⬠¦ ââ¬Å"yesâ⬠(pg.111) this is another sig nificant event where Hassan put Amir before himself selflessly. Baba Is always perceived as a wise man with strong morals and opinions in ââ¬Å"The Kite Runnerâ⬠. He is not a coward nor selfish, he stands up for what he believes is right and Baba is a very brave man. This is displayed when he sacrifices his life for a woman he does not know. He stands up and says, ââ¬Å"Tell him Iââ¬â¢ll take a thousand of his bullets before I let this indecency take placeâ⬠. (Pg. 122) This act stops a Russian soldier from raping a woman that is carrying a baby on their way to America. This shows the love Baba has in his heart to help this woman from a terrible event that would have taken place if he had not stopped it. He has shown love and sacrifice for women he does not know and that shows his good character and bravery. Although Amir had feels his father never appreciated him enough his father makes a big sacrifice for Amir. With the war-taking place in Afghanistan, Baba knows it will not be a safe place for Amir to grow up and knows he has to do something about it. He leaves everything he has behind. He sacrifices everything he has for Amir, all his belongings, and his house, and where he grew up. He leaves his life behind so Amir can have a happy and safe life in America. He does not like America but he knows it is best for Amir. He puts Amir before himself, demonstrating another one of Babaââ¬â¢s selfless acts. Throughout the novel, Amir has some very negative personality traits. He is selfish, demanding, cowardly, disrespectful and jealous. He does not seem like the type of person that will do something for another out of the kindness of their heart. He always thinks about himself and what he wants. He has never sacrificed anything for the people he loves. Growing up withà the memory of Hassanââ¬â¢s rape still fresh in his mind like a situation that has just unfolded has finally opened his eyes and makes him realize he needs to be brave for once in his life. So Amir acts. He goes back to Afghanistan to find Hassanââ¬â¢s son, Sohrab. Rahim Khanââ¬â¢s advice, ââ¬Å"There is a way to be good againâ⬠(pg.2) helps Amir to put his feelings into action. Assef, now a Taliban officer, beats Amir up badly, but this, heals Amir of his wrong doings from the past and he takes Sohrab back to America with him to live a good life. Amir finally puts someone before himself after all the sac rifices Hassan has made for him in the past. This shows the love and sacrifice he makes for Hassanââ¬â¢s child knowing it is the only way he can ever repay Hassan for the years of mistreatment in their childhood. The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini demonstrates a very good lesson on sacrifice and love. The novel is a perfect example of the ways Jesus shows us how to live our lives. ââ¬Å"There is no greater love than to lay ones life down for a friendâ⬠.

MOVING TO SUSTAINABILITY The next step is to embed this process encouraging the mentee to bring together their perceptions, reasoning, emotions and aligning this to their goals. This is itself can pose a trap (Kets de Vries and Korotov 2007) for mentees if they have not integrated a critical learning approach to their complex problem solving situations. If they have not, then the outcome is nothing better than surface learning characterised by double loop learning where they become puzzled and wedged between different viewpoints, assumptions and conflict. Things become ââ¬Å"undiscussibleâ⬠(that is not up for discussion either implicitly or explicitly) enforcing one or other to suppress their voice, to silence them and to feel intimidated. The mentor through the mentoring process assists mentees question their repeated thoughts and actions so that they can untangle themselves from this self-defeating spiral. Avoiding or ignoring it will not resolve this problem. A dynamic reflective process between me ntee and mentor establishes a framework for deep learning, assisting the mentee to making sense of their challenges, which ultimately provides greater insights regarding their intra and interpersonal conflicts. Resilient mentoring is aimed at critical and flexible learning and is an advantage for mentees in that it provides them with a process for delving into issues and problems that they encounter. The process allows mentees to foster within them an approach to change their

Name: Amr Mohamed El Sayed Teacher: Ghada el Shimi A Change Of Heart About Animals Breakthroughs in biotechnology, nanotechnology, and more universal questions like the age of our universe, inside the lab a bigger story is revealed, one which will influence how we think forever. The researchers are finding that many of zoo animals we visit have a lot of common human traits, more than one may think. Ironically, companies that invested in these projects are fast food companies, which conduct research into the emotional, mental, and behavioral states of our fellow creatures. We will write a custom essay sample on A Change of Heart About Animals or any similar topic only for you Order Now Research on pigsââ¬â¢ social behavior funded by McDonaldââ¬â¢s at Purdue University, for instance, has found that pigs want to be cared for, and are easily depressed if left alone or denied playtime with each other. Germanyââ¬â¢s government is urging pig farmers to give each pig 20 seconds of human contact everyday for nurturing purposes. Researchers were amazed more recently, with the discovery of the extent to which New Caledonian crows, attain conceptual abilities, Jeremy Rifkin said ââ¬Å"In controlled experiments, scientists at Oxford University reported that two birds named Betty and Abel were given a choice between using two tools, one a straight wire, the other a hooked wire, to snag a piece of meat from inside a tube. â⬠Self-awareness is another aspect, which raises the question of whether these animalsââ¬â¢ inferiority affects their mentality. Philosophers and animal behavioristsââ¬â¢ perspectives on these issues are quarreling and confusing, they have long argued that animals lack a sense of self. Rifkin stated that ââ¬Å"Elephants will often stand next to their dead kin for days, occasionally touching their bodies with their trunks,â⬠proving that sense of self and mortality. Recent studies in brain chemistry have found that when rats play, their brains release large amounts of dopamine, a neurochemical associated with ââ¬Å"pleasure and excitement in human beings. â⬠Scientists are still advancing the vision that most animals ehave by innate instinct, and what is viewed to be learned behavior, is nothing more than genetics. We are now finding that learning is passed on from ancestor to offspring more often than not, and that most animals engage in all kinds of ââ¬Å"learned experience brought on by continued experimentation. â⬠Harvard and 25 other U. S. law schools have introduced university level courses on animal rights, the numbers of animal rights lawsuits being filed around the world, are increasing at an exponential rate. In fact, Germany recently became the first nation to guarantee animal rights in its constitution. How to cite A Change of Heart About Animals, Essay examples

Dealing with Death free essay sample
He addresses three figures of language that makes this poem memorable. Robert Frost was born in San Francisco in 1874. When he was ten, his father passed away and his family decided to move back to New England. Frost emphasized that a poem ââ¬Å"never a put-up jobâ⬠¦. It begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a loneliness. It is never a thought to begin with. It is at its best when it is a tantalizing vagueness. â⬠(Lowell 1). His fatherââ¬â¢s absence, I believe thatââ¬â¢s why Frost usually writes about a family without a child, or as in Home Burial the baby has passed away. Robert Frost was also the first poet to speak at a Presidential Inauguration in 1961 for President John. F Kennedy, when he recited The Gift Outright. After winning many awards, named as one of Americaââ¬â¢s best poets, and having a mountain named after him in Vermont, Robert Frost passed away in 1963. We will write a custom essay sample on Dealing with Death or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page The first element of literature Robert Frost makes memorable is imagery. In lines 84 amp; 86-87, Amy states, ââ¬Å"You could sit there with stains on your shoesâ⬠and ââ¬Å"You had stood the spade up against the wall outside there in the entry, for I saw it. (Frost 1). Amy realizes and over reacts because no matter what, just like a stain, the absence of her baby will always be there. As for the spade, leaning against the wall until something comes and gets rid of it, the burden of their childââ¬â¢s death will poise her life until something, if anything, can help her. Next, the farmer questions Amyââ¬â¢s health. He states, ââ¬Å"What had how long it takes a birch to rot. â⬠(Frost 1). How long will it take for Amy to become sane again? Without a doubt, the bitch is going to rot. Therefore, the farmer faces reality and begins to take steps to grow from this burden, yet Amy canââ¬â¢t seem to get a grip on the reality of the ordeal. Another memorable form of imagery, and maybe the most significant, is on line 7-8. ââ¬Å"The farmer addresses Amy, ââ¬Å"What is it you see from up there always? ââ¬âfor I want to know. â⬠(Frost 1). While they both look out the windows into the grave yard, they might see the same image, but they donââ¬â¢t see the same feelings. Amy canââ¬â¢t let go of the fact that her child is underground, while her husband is wondering why she canââ¬â¢t face reality and more forward. Another element of literature that was memorable in this poem is theme. Robert Frost distinguishes two major themes; the loss of a child, and the loss for love. Frost narrates in the first three lines, ââ¬Å"He saw her from the bottom of the stairs before she saw him. She was starting down, looking back over her shoulder at some fear,â⬠(Frost 1). Amy watched her husband burry their child and enter the house, but she couldnââ¬â¢t look at him. However, the farmer already had his eyes on his wife. For the loss of the child can be analyzed in two views; feminine and masculine. The husband has already got his eyes going forward, even though he is upset, he stands strong. As for Amy, the fear of the burden keeps her trapped, and not allowed to move on. For the second major theme, lines 112-113, Amy states, ââ¬Å"I must go ââ¬âsomewhere out of this house. How can I make youââ¬âââ¬ââ⬠(Frost 1). Since the baby is gone, the love has disappeared between the two. The house represents their marriage, and she has already opened the door and lost the love for the farmer. Also itââ¬â¢s very interesting how Frost doesnââ¬â¢t allow Amy to finish what she was saying. Instead, inserts two dashesâ⬠¦ I believe that no one feels the same about death. Therefore, he left that for us to imagine. For the third element of literature that Robert Frost implies is irony. The first ironical statement made is on line 18 and 20-22. The farmer mumbles, ââ¬Å"Just that I see. â⬠Then states, ââ¬Å"The wonder is I didnââ¬â¢t see at once. I never noticed it from here before. â⬠(Frost 1). Once the farmer glances out the window and sees that his wife has been staring at the grave yard, he understands the depth of her feelings for their child. Itââ¬â¢s irony due to the fact that he never thought of how his wife was feeling while he was digging the grave. Until he saw it from her perspective, he had just faced reality and proceeded to move on. Thereafter, in lines 54-55, the farmer implies ââ¬Å"Two that donââ¬â¢t love canââ¬â¢t live together without them. But two that do canââ¬â¢t live together with themâ⬠(Frost 1). The irony in this statement is that itââ¬â¢s opposite of what is going on between the two. With the baby, the two were perfectly fine, but without the child, they begin to lose love for one another. Robert Frost ability to manage subjectivity and objectivity, in his poetry and to connect to his past is unparalleled. His romantic mood and modern day dialogue allow Frost to be one of the most exciting poets in American history. In his poem Home Burial Frost addresses three elements of literature that makes the poem memorable, and with these elements, he shows how a couple coupes differently with the death of their child. Iââ¬â¢ve collected from this poem that everyone faces death differently. Works Cited Frost, Robert. ââ¬Å"Home Burial. â⬠(1915): Lowell, Amy. ââ¬Å"Robert Frost.
